Bethan-May Greaves

Yard Proprietor

Bethan started riding at the age of 6 and quickly became captivated with the sport and caring for the animals. She started spending as much time as she could at the yard and finally got her first pony at the age of 11. Over the next few years she spent every spare moment at the yard, enjoying the caring, riding and challenge of various different ponies. Bethan never had much opportunity to compete until much later, when, at the age of 15 she started eventing and team chasing. She later took many equestrian qualifications including BHS stages and coaching certificates and has been teaching various clients over the years when time allowed.

Bethan continued her education in the equestrian industry completing a BSc Equine Science degree, alongside managing a successful livery yard. During which time she found show jumping better suited her busy schedule. She has completed through the levels and continues to actively compete in BS.

Over the years Bethan has worked on various yards specialising in veterinary aftercare, rehabilitation, backing and training, gaining valuable experience with a wide range of industries and horses. Bethan has backed and trained horses for various disciplines from racing, dressage, show jumping and eventing.

Bethan currently has 2 exciting your horses, Florie and Kastone. Florie is a 6 year old showjumper, backed and produced by Bethan over the last two years and has just started competing in BS. Florie had a troubled start to life, but has a lot of natural talent. She has already qualified for Scope 2018 and British Novice second rounds 2019. Bethan also aims to qualify Florie for the Discovery second rounds. Kastone is a 5 year old, rescued by the RSPCA as a yearling and Bethan took him on as a 2 year old. He has been backed and produced by here and is ready to start his eventing career.

Bethan has a great knowledge and understanding of running various yards, which she uses to create her own yard procedures. Horse welfare is of great importance to her and she offers a friendly and professional approach to her yard.

Finally, Bethan is also a director of BeBe Equine, a horse feed, bedding and equestrian supplies business. She is always on hand to offer key nutritional product advice and help.

Meridith Swaffield

Groom

Meridith recently completed her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management (equitation) at the BCA in Berkshire. Meridith's love of horses started when she moved to Chinnor and began riding a friends pony.  Her friends mum was of the opinion that if you rode, then you helped with grooming, yard duties, tacking up, etc. so by the age of 8 Meridith was an efficient stable girl.

Before joining the team at Upper Farm, Meridith worked as a groom at a local riding school come livery yard and in February 2017 she started working with a horse whose rider wasn’t able to ride anymore due to a hunting accident. Wally is an ex race horse who has evented and hunted but hadn’t been ridden for 2 years so Meridith had to start from scratch building back his muscles and stamina. After a busy summer they now hack out regularly and Wally happily jumps up to a meter at home.

Meridith would love to go on to university and study equine physiotherapy or performance and rehabilitation.
